Calling All Party Animals First Birthday Party
This is what Madeline said about styling the party:
"Hippo Hooray! We celebrated our little party animal turning ONE with a party as colorful as she is! Our precious rainbow baby has absolutely colored our world since the moment she was born and I knew I wanted her first birthday to be representative of her. Her little personality is bright and bubbly – she really is the life of the party! This colorful party animal theme was just that.
Set-up & Decor:
Guests entered the party up a staircase lined with life-sized animals who also seemed to be "walking up" the steps to enter the party. Some of the party animals even had gifts and balloons in tow.
We have a small collection of Melissa and Doug life-sized stuffed animals that my daughter adores! Luckily, we were able to borrow from family members to turn our small collection into a BIG collection for the party decor. So, we ended up with 17 animals in total, placed all throughout the house. And of course, each of them wore their own party hat, ready to celebrate!
These days, everyone needs the perfect photo backdrop. I made a rainbow wall out of Mylar heart-shaped balloons with party animals propped in front of it. This was the perfect backdrop for the smash cake as well as guest photo-ops.
Food & Desserts:
The menu followed suit with the theme as each item was animal related. We opted for simple, but colorful, calligraphy signage.
Also dispersed throughout the food table were mini animal figurines wearing party hats. I made the hats myself using a little paper, hot glue, and tiny pompoms. The cookies were made by The Velvet Crumb, a Fort Worth local who makes the most delicious works of art! She makes cookies for all of my parties and always blows me away with her creativity and talent.
Party Favors:
The party favors were one of my favorite details! They were comprised of Glass Jars + Spray Paint + Hot Glue + Iced Animal Cookies. They were so easy to make, but everyone was talking about them! It created one final detail, a simple statement, for guests to enjoy right as they had to leave the party.
Conclusion:
In the end, I LOVED every minute of planning this party! The theme was so much fun and the options were limitless! I always combine DIY and the service of others when it comes to parties. For one, it helps keep the budget realistic. And second, I'm crafty but I don't want to be too stressed planning a party to be able to enjoy it. I also love to support local businesses. So, I've found this is a great approach to small-scale party planning."
